EXAMPLE ENGRAVINGS

See what yours can look like.

Small wood portraits have a warm, natural look rather than the sharpness of a printed photograph. Clear close-up photos usually give the strongest result.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Natural wood engraving, not a photo print.

We use a compact 10-watt diode laser. It creates a simple, permanent burned portrait with visible wood character. Fine facial detail will be softer than it looks on your phone or computer screen.

01

Warm brown engraving

The image is burned into the wood in light-to-dark brown tones. There is no ink and no full-color printing.

02

Fine detail can soften

At about four inches, eyelashes, individual hairs, tiny jewelry, and distant faces can blend together or disappear.

03

Wood grain is visible

Grain, color, knots, and the individual piece of wood affect the final engraving and make every piece a little different.

04

Your proof controls the layout

The proof is used for crop, positioning, and overall darkness. The finished wood may engrave somewhat lighter, darker, or softer.

GOOD TO KNOW

Photo tips & FAQs

What photo works best?

A bright, sharp close-up where one or two faces fill most of the frame. Avoid distant group photos, heavy shadows, and busy backgrounds.

Is the proof exact?

The proof locks in the crop, placement, and approximate darkness. Natural wood and laser response can make the finished piece somewhat softer, lighter, or darker.

Round or square?

Both use common 4-inch blanks. Round feels more like a traditional coaster; square gives the portrait a little more corner space.

Can I change it after approval?

Adjust the preview as much as you want before submitting. Once you approve and pay, production can begin.
